Welcome to Tiny Steps Longsight
A purpose-built, 95-place day nursery and pre-school giving children aged 0–5 the very best start in life — through play, care and a love of learning.
A small, friendly nursery with a happy heart
Here at Tiny Steps Nursery Manchester we provide a professional childcare service for children aged 0 to 5 years. In our supportive environment, your child learns and develops through play and creativity, following the EYFS curriculum alongside warm, skilled staff.
We're a purpose-built 95-place private day nursery and pre-school, with a large pre-school and baby room, three toddler rooms and two outdoor play areas. We're proudly multicultural, with children and staff from many different backgrounds — and communication and partnership with parents sits at the centre of everything we do.
Health & Safety
We audit our premises against statutory requirements and our own stringent policy.

We're a small, friendly team, and many of our staff have been with us for years.
Each child is allocated a member of staff known to you and your child as their Key Person. This special relationship is the foundation of how we care for and get to know every child.
Your child's Key Person helps them settle in, builds a warm and trusting bond, and makes sure their individual needs, interests and routines are understood and met.
- Gets to know your child's personality, likes and dislikes
- Supports settling-in and emotional wellbeing
- Observes and records development, planning next steps
- Is your friendly first point of contact each day
- Shares regular updates on progress and achievements
Why it matters
Research and the EYFS framework both recognise that secure attachments help children feel safe enough to explore, play and learn. A consistent Key Person gives your child that secure base — and gives you peace of mind.
Parents as Partners
We are always interested in your ideas, concerns and support. Communication with parents is critical to our nursery — we seek to form a genuine partnership so that your child's and family's individual needs are met.
Daily communication
Verbal handovers and updates so you always know how your child's day has gone.
Progress sharing
Regular updates on development, achievements and next steps in learning.
Family involvement
Opportunities to share your culture, celebrate together and shape what we do.

Loading…
This is a friendly guide only — it doesn't confirm eligibility. Always check your exact entitlement on childcarechoices.gov.uk and with our team.
15 hours · all 3–4s
Universal entitlement from the term after your child turns 3 — for every family, whatever you earn.
15 hours · eligible 2s
For families on certain benefits or additional support, an EHC plan, or a child who has been looked after.
30 hours · 9 months+
For eligible working parents, from the term after your child turns 9 months until school — usually 30 hrs across 38 weeks.
Term time or stretched?
Funded hours are normally taken across 38 term-time weeks. With stretched funding you spread them over all 52 weeks for steady fees year-round:

- 15 hrs term time → 10.9 hrs/week, 52 weeks
How to apply
- Check eligibility on the official government site
- Get your code (working-parent entitlements)
- Bring your code and child's details to us
- Reconfirm your code every 3 months
Eligibility, hours and start dates depend on your circumstances and are administered by your local authority. Please confirm details with our team and on childcarechoices.gov.uk.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a play-based curriculum for children from birth to five, letting them explore and learn somewhere secure and safe, yet challenging. Our practice follows the current EYFS statutory framework: the seven areas of learning and the early learning goals remain in place, and we keep our wider practice up to date with the latest statutory updates, including the September 2025 and September 2026 changes.
The seven areas of learning
Three prime areas lay the foundations; four specific areas build on them.
Communication & language
Listening, attention, understanding and speaking.
Physical development
Gross and fine motor skills, coordination, health and self-care.
Personal, social & emotional
Self-regulation, managing feelings and building relationships.
Literacy
Early reading, phonics, mark-making and a love of books.
Mathematics
Number, numerical patterns, shape and spatial reasoning.
Understanding the world
People, communities, the natural world, past and present.
Expressive arts & design
Creativity through art, music, movement and imaginative play.
How we plan & assess
We observe children at play, capture their interests and plan next steps that gently stretch their learning. We carry out a progress check around age two and keep families involved every step of the way, celebrating the characteristics of effective learning: playing and exploring, active learning, and creating and thinking critically.

Starting school is an important milestone for every child and their parents. We prepare your child gently and positively, so the move feels exciting rather than daunting.
- Building independence — dressing, tidying, listening and sharing
- School-readiness routines and group activities
- Sharing your child's learning journey with their new teacher
- Talking positively about school and answering little worries
- Working closely with local primary schools
Working with you
We'll keep you informed throughout your child's final year with us, share their development summary, and offer guidance on supporting the transition at home.
Talk to usWe know that starting nursery is a big step for the whole family. Our settling-in process is gentle and led by your child's needs, with their Key Person beside them every step of the way.
1 · Visit & settle
Short settling sessions let your child get to know their room, Key Person and new friends at their own pace.
2 · Share their story
You tell us your child's routines, likes, comforts and needs so we can care for them just as you would.
3 · First days
We build up gradually and keep in close contact, so you feel reassured and your child feels at home.
What to bring
- Spare clothes and any comforter
- Nappies/wipes and sun cream as needed
- A named water bottle
- Anything that helps your child feel secure
We regularly audit our premises to make sure we comply not just with statutory legal requirements, but also with our own stringent health and safety policy. Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility, and our whole team is trained to keep children safe.
Our full policies and procedures — including safeguarding, health & safety, behaviour, complaints, medication and more — are set out in our parent handbook. Download the parent handbook (PDF).

Babies sleep safely on their backs in their own clear, flat sleep space, in line with NHS safer-sleep guidance — which is being written directly into the EYFS framework from September 2026. Our rooms are fully air-conditioned and temperature-monitored throughout the day, so children play and sleep at safe, comfortable temperatures all year round.

Good food fuels growing bodies and curious minds. We follow the Department for Education's Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) nutrition guidance — a statutory part of the EYFS framework since September 2025 — so that every meal, snack and drink we serve is healthy, balanced and nutritious.
Fresh & balanced
Freshly prepared meals built around a variety of food groups, with plenty of fruit and vegetables and age-appropriate portions.
Water on tap
Fresh drinking water is available to every child throughout the day.
Less sugar
We keep added sugar low — puddings are fruit- or dairy-based rather than sugary, and aren't served every day.
Allergies & dietary needs
We gather each child's needs before they start, keep allergy action plans, and a named member of staff checks every meal and snack. Cultural and religious diets are catered for.
Babies & milk
We support breastfeeding with a comfortable space and safe storage of expressed milk, and provide first infant formula for babies who need it.
Happy mealtimes
Calm, social mealtimes where children eat together, try new flavours and build a positive relationship with food.
Our food provision follows the DfE's Early Years Foundation Stage nutrition guidance, in force since September 2025. Please talk to us about any allergies or dietary needs before your child starts.

At Tiny Steps Longsight we care for children from birth to five, grouped by age and stage of development. Our rooms are named after favourite children's stories, and as your child grows they move up gently — always with a familiar Key Person to settle them in. Every room is fully air-conditioned, keeping children comfortable for play and naps whatever the weather outside.
Baby Room
A calm, nurturing space for our youngest. We follow each baby's own feeding and sleeping routine, with lots of cuddles, sensory play and early communication to help them feel secure.
Toddler Room
Busy, curious and on the move. We focus on language, independence (mealtimes, toileting) and learning through play, exploration and lots of outdoor time.
Pre-school Room
Getting ready for school. Early literacy and maths, friendships, confidence and self-care, all through a play-based EYFS curriculum that prepares children for their next big step.
Staff-to-child ratios
We meet the statutory EYFS staff-to-child ratios at all times, so your child always has the attention they need:
All our practitioners are qualified, paediatric first-aid trained and safely recruited. Come and meet the team — book a tour or register your child.
What ages do you take?
We welcome children from birth to five years old, across our baby, toddler and pre-school rooms. See our rooms & age groups for how the journey works.
What are your opening hours?
We're open Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 6:00pm, term time and (for all-year places) throughout the year apart from bank holidays and a short Christmas closure. See our term dates.
How much does it cost?
A full day is £65, with reduced rates for funded children. The easiest way to get an exact figure is our fees calculator, which works out your monthly cost based on your days and any funded hours.
Do you accept 15 and 30 funded hours?
Yes. We offer the Government's funded early education for eligible 2, 3 and 4-year-olds (and the expanded entitlements for working parents). Funded hours are based on 38 weeks a year (term time). Check what you're entitled to with our funded hours checker.
How do I secure a place?
Complete our online registration form and we'll be in touch to confirm availability. For paid places, a non-refundable £50 deposit secures the place and covers our registration admin. Fully funded places don't require a deposit.
What's your Ofsted rating?
Tiny Steps Longsight is rated Outstanding by Ofsted. You can read the full report on the Ofsted website.
How does settling in work?
Before your child starts we arrange settling-in sessions so they (and you) can get comfortable with us at your own pace. Your child's Key Person will be there to build a bond from day one. More on our starting nursery page.
What should my child bring?
Spare changes of clothes, any nappies and wipes (if applicable), a sun hat and weather-appropriate outdoor clothing, and a comforter if they have one. Please label everything. We provide meals, snacks and all activity materials.
Do you provide meals?
Yes — freshly prepared, balanced meals and snacks with fresh drinking water always available. We cater for allergies, intolerances and dietary or cultural requirements. See healthy eating.
How do you keep the rooms comfortable?
All of our rooms at Longsight are fully air-conditioned — still a rarity in UK nurseries — so children stay comfortable through summer heatwaves and chilly winters alike. Room temperatures are monitored throughout the day, and sleep areas are kept at safe, comfortable levels.
What happens if my child is unwell?
For everyone's wellbeing we follow NHS and Health Protection guidance on infectious illnesses. Children with a fever, sickness or diarrhoea should stay home until they've fully recovered (usually 48 hours clear). We'll always contact you if your child becomes unwell during the day.
How do you keep children safe?
Safeguarding is our top priority: secure, controlled entry, a strict collection procedure with passwords and authorised contacts, robust policies and trained Designated Safeguarding Leads. More on health & safety.
Do you support children with SEND?
Absolutely. We're an inclusive setting with a SENCO who works closely with families and outside professionals. See our SEND local offer.
How will I know how my child is getting on?
Your child's Key Person shares regular updates and observations, and we work in close partnership with parents — see parents as partners. You're always welcome to talk to us about your child's progress.
